New Reading Material

This Tuesday's clinic was once again very cold, but we were all heartened to see the continued success of the bright yellow vests. People really know what to look for, which is excellent.

Nothing much to report on in terms of protester activity, but plenty to say about protester fashion. Two of the ladies wore pink berets, which makes it very hard to know what to call them (confession: a lot of the time I can't actually tell the protesters apart, so when I say Glare-y Mary did this or Pink Hat did that, they may very well be one and the same). One of the pink-hatted ladies, however, had on some excellent cold-weather pants: bright orange! They looked to be splash pants, actually, but I have to believe they were warmer. Quite fetching, regardless - perhaps she is trying to compete with the escorts in terms of visibility?

Over the pants, the same lady was wearing a long fur coat. I read somewhere the other day that fur is making a comeback; apparently it has become somewhat passé to be offended by it. So I guess Pink Hat is just keeping with the style. Although the scotch-tape repairs to a tear in the shoulder could use some work.

I stopped reading the 40 Days for Life blog quite some time ago, after the updates stopped at Day 34. However, the ever-vigilant KM has pointed out to me that there are, in fact, more updates - including our little exercise in absurdism (see Day 35). KM's favourite part of the new content is the stuff about pigeons on day 35 which I agree is pretty fantastic. However, I think my favourite is on the penultimate day, when Critical Mass rode by, shouting out pro-choice chants (which I very much enjoyed from my office window). Peter Ryan says: "Isn’t it amazing how much energy some people can waste on foolishness?"

The irony, it burns!!

I also greatly enjoyed the rant about young people on Day 31. Only young people who participate in prayer vigils are not foolish, is what I got from it.

What I find the most fascinating is Peter Ryan's characterizations: of young people, of the escorts, but specficially of our clinic manager. The way he describes her, it makes me think of some comic book villain, lurking and glaring from the shadows. It makes me wonder a lot about what my blog must look like from an outsider's view.

Anyway, I know I shouldn't be giving them all this attention, but there are some things I just can't stand to keep to myself. :)

I glanced at the 40 days blog and I literally chocked on laughter when I read: Making the situation more acute, the workers at the temple of death were positively giddy about their apparent triumph. So I guess I volunteer (which will be more often next term when I don't have class Tues am) at a temple of death. Resume material? I think so.

I am praying for your salvation.. as well as the many others that are caught in this jumble of sin, that someday (and hopefully soon) you will emerge from the lies, the dark, the evil in which you lay yourself down in. May God show his love to you today.

Clarification: the fur coat/orange pants was Glare-y Mary.

Pedge, I am hoping for your salvation from these anonymous commentators.. as well as the many others who love your blog and the work you do, that at no time (hopefully never) you will emerge from the blankets, the sweatpants, the hot chocolateyness in which you lay yourself down in. May Santa show his love for you today (and in two weeks time).

Anon. and HB: My mother loves me; I don't need love from an invisible man in the sky or an obese man who creeps around people's houses at night. Or your prayers for that matter.

@Not Guilty: My post was a snarky response to Anonymous' ridiculousness (especially the awwwful grammar). I'd have written a logical response that pointed out all the holes in his/her argument, but that's been tried to little avail. Besides, snark is much funner!

ahhh...Not Guilty, I think HB was making a joke. A hilarious/delicious joke.

The orange pants were orange sweatpants. Glarey Mary knows all about the fine things.

HB - You are HILARIOUS!

I notice whenever ANYONE disagress with you guys you pounce.....pathetic. Just because someone has a different view than you or, God forbid, they pray for you (harmless) you feel it necessary to be overly nasty? You can tell just by the # of comments on each blog if there has been even one adversary on it because there are at least 8-10 comments whereas when Pedge posts her weekly blog with no differing opinion you guys write a whopping 1-2 responses. Grow up and realize that your views are NOT always the correct ones and, yes, sometimes people will disagree. With every major issue in life there are good vs. evil forces. Which side of the fence are you all on? Hmmmmmm.......

Ahh and here lies the problem with anonymous names (other than anonymous). And also the problem with online conversation, sarcasm doesn't convey well. No matter. I still don't need love or prayers from anybody!

Anonymous,

I don't 'pounce' on differing opinions because they are different. I recognize and appreciate that we live in a polity, and that diversity of opinion is desirable.

No, I 'pounce' on (some) anti-choice opinions not because they are different than my own, but because they are rude, hateful, sanctimonious, pushy, or ignorant.

I respect the notion that everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, but I also understand that opinion is subjective. When you say something stupid like "Grow up and realize that your views are NOT always the correct ones and, yes, sometimes people will disagree. With every major issue in life there are good vs. evil forces. Which side of the fence are you all on?" you cross the line between opinion and 'fact.' By entering into a right or wrong binary, you call into question the validity of my opinion. By making a statement like that, you're doing the very thing that you were whining about. You are imposing your views on others, and you make it impossible to enter into a meaningful debate. How can you have a reasoned argument when one side is "good" and the other is "evil"?

In short, you have a right to your opinion, but the minute you try to push it on me as an objective truth, you're gonna get pounced.

And, anonymous, allow me to add to Edward's answer (which was excellent):

NEVER "pray for" someone you don't know, especially without first asking permission of them! Prayer is not "harmless" -- it is a weapon used by people like you to beat the rest of us over the head, and it is an attempt to interfere with another person's free will. Never do that.

As for my views (and I speak only for myself), they are always correct for me. They're not meant to be lived up to by anyone else.

I have a web page on the "effects of abortion". I hope the effects continue long after I do.

Well I assent to but I dream the post should have more info then it has.

The safe answer ;)

Nope. Please read imnotsorry.net. MANY women regret their pregnancies. Or adoption. MORE than an abortion.
