Tuesday's clinic was busy. The protesters weren't too bad, although Pink Hat did get a hold of a couple on their way in, before the escorts could get there. They still came in, but they were a little upset and Pink Hat was more smug than usual. But if you didn't save the baby, didn't you lose?
I don't know if I can adequately put into words the jumble of my life right now. I am going to Ontario for a friend's wedding this weekend (well, I'm leaving today), and going to NY state for a conference next weekend, so my mind isn't entirely on clinic stuff right now. My partner is in the middle of figuring out what happens after law school, so it's tense.
I was going to do a rather poetic post about bathrobes, the bathrobes people wear and the ones we have, and what people wear in general, and what comfort means to different people. But I can't. I'm too scattered. I will try to write one before next clinic, I promise.
Looks like you prefer Glare-y Mary as a nickname over Lady in Red. I will blog accordingly in future. :)

It would seem that the point is not to save the zygote so much as it is to try and harass, hurt, and abuse another human being. Why else would your brightly hued cap wearing friend feel smug?
how many killins did you guys do this week? what is your best week and worst week?
I can't speak for everyone, but personally my best week is when anti-choice trolls back the fuck off.
Pedge=Seriously Badass!

Hi,
This isn't a comment on this post, but I wasn't sure how to contact. I'm from NB and I read your blog from time to time and I was just curious about your thoughts on an article I recently read in the Globe and Mail by Stephanie Nolan, or if you had any thoughts about this issue in general:

Thanks!

Anti-choice is a better option than killing innocent children. You do know that the second the sperm and the egg meet that a PERSON is in the works. You do see the terrible left overs from abortions right? They have to sort out every piece of the baby to make sure they didn't leave anything behind. If you didn't want a child in the first place either have abstinance or use a condom or birth control. Don't choose abortion. Choose adoption if anything besides that horrible alternative that's offered as a way to liberate women from the 'hassle' of being a parent. That's just my opinion of course. >:-|
Now when a woman needs the opinion of some stranger on the internet regarding what choices to make with her own body, I will know where to send her.
So when sperm meets egg eh. What if the genome of this new child prevents it being born with a brain? or other fatal abnormalities?
Should the mother then carry it to term simply to watch it die to satisfy you personal beliefs? I'm not saying all abortions are done for this reason, but you're the one dealing in absolutes.
Unless someone is uneducated ( ie abstinence only education) I doubt many people are relying on abortion access as a from of birth control. That's a fiction of the protestors. I bet you think all abortions are performed in the last week before birth to.
Dispatch from Australia: Teen who has abortion is forced into hiding after continued harassment which led to her home is firebombed.

This is what Forced-Maternity Zealots actually believe in.
"You do know that the second the sperm and the egg meet that a PERSON is in the works."
That's your definition of "person", which is based on religious dogma, not uncontestable fact. And half of the time, your God himself aborts that PERSON. Hm. Are you crying every time a woman has a period? You should be.
"If you didn't want a child in the first place either have abstinance or use a condom or birth control."
Gee, you're so much smarter than everyone else in the world! Nobody but you has ever considered using birth control or not having sex. Certainly, nobody gets pregnant in spite of those things! Everybody who gets pregnant by accident is dumber than you. It must feel awesome to sit at your computer desk and know that you're superior to every woman who's ever had a pregnancy scare JUST FOR EXISTING.
"Choose adoption if anything besides that horrible alternative that's offered as a way to liberate women from the 'hassle' of being a parent."
A woman is not a flowerpot. Pregnancy is a major life change with permanent physical and emotional consequences. Bearing a child and giving it up for adoption is a profound, painful, and often very traumatic life event, which you would know if you'd read any books written about women who have actually gone through it. As for calling permanent changes to one's body, hundreds of thousands of dollars in expenses, and decades of work and worry a "hassle" -- well, you've just demonstrated that you think women's lives and work are worth next to nothing. I hope you're pleased with yourself.
Killjoy ,
" Pregnancy is a major life change with permanent physical and emotional consequences."
So why are there no consequences when it is ARTIFICIALLY terminated?
ABORTION is a profound, painful, and often very traumatic life event, which you would know if you'd read any books written about women who have actually gone through it.
But of course, going through with pregnancy, or having a miscarriage has consequences, however an abortion does not. Any consequences coming from abortion is a bunch of BS.
Sorry, I´m not buying it.
PS. I´ve had an unwanted pregnancy, and understand very well what woman go through.
"I´ve had an unwanted pregnancy, and understand very well what woman go through."
No, you understand very well what YOU went through. Every woman is an individual and deserves the opportunity to make a choice for herself. Sometimes she makes a choice that has negative consequences for her, but that in no way justifies taking away that choice for other women.
There is just as much opportunity to regret parenting and adoption as there is to regret abortion. How do we decide which choice to take away? We don't. We TRUST WOMEN.
So why are there no consequences when it is ARTIFICIALLY terminated?>>
Umm, really, you might as well ask why are there 'no' (after all that is obviously not true since all medical procedures carry consequences) consequences to an organ DONOR when they revoke consent to organ donation as compared to when they GIVE consent. Really, obvious fail is obvious.
